Shopping for food in Golborne - three of the best
If you like to cook, shopping for food on and around Golborne Road is a real pleasure because of the choice and quality available. Here are three of our favourite places.
Golborne Fisheries
75-77 Golborne Road, W10 5NL
This fishmonger attracts customers from all over west London because of the freshness and variety of its fish and shellfish. Snappers, hake, red mullet, live lobsters, scallops, clams, and all kinds of prawns and crayfish are all available. They also do some great special offers with two sea bream or two sea bass for only £6. Friendly staff are always on hand to help you choose from their wide and changing range and they’re happy to prepare the fish how any way you want them.
Fruit and Vegetable Stall
Pitched opposite Bazar at 82 Golborne Road
We hear lots about the benefits of eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables – and let’s face, they’re delicious anyway. Golborne Road is well served for fresh produce and the Fruit and Veg Stall opposite Bazar is one place to stock up. Whether you’re after fruit like pineapples or pears, mangoes or melons, or vegetables like aubergine, peppers or something green this is the place to come. And they do some excellent fresh herbs as well - a generous bunch of fragrant thyme was just £1 the other day.
La Plaza Delicatessen
288 Portobello Road, W10 5TE
This is the sister business of the excellent La Plaza Restaurant and Tapas Bar just off Portobello on Tavistock Road. It sells a wide range of Spanish delicacies including chorizos (Spanish sausages) both picante (hot) and dulce (mild), Spanish salamis, and delicious cheeses including favourites like Manchego made from sheep and cow’s milk and creamy Tetilla, which gets its name from its breast-like shape. It also offers excellent fresh bread and very reasonably priced sandwiches.
