Pizza East

Pizza East comes to Golborne

Once the Carnarvon Castle, then the Bed Bar and lately the Fat Badger, the pub on the junction of Golborne, Bevington and Portobello Roads re-opened as Pizza East Portobello in May 2011. This is the brand’s second branch, with one already established in Shoreditch.

The interior has been gutted and completely renewed for the launch. The new look, we’re told, “pays homage to the building’s history as a pub, with a classic British design, using dark wooden panels, vintage lighting and wooden seating.”

On the menu, you can choosefrom pizzas like Portobello mushroom, tomato, shallot and egg, or Courgette, tomato, taleggio and marjoram. Other dishes include monkfish and pancetta, and lamb cutlets, endive and caprino fresco. Prices are mid-range, between £8 and £13 for a main.

Soho House Group, which already has a presence in the area with its Electric Cinema, Brasserie and private members club, is behind the new opening. The company started with the Soho House members' club in 1995 and now runs leisure businesses around the world with outposts in locations like Somerset, Berlin, New York, Miami Beach and Hollywood.

Nick Jones, husband to broadcaster Kirsty Young, started the business and still owns 20 per cent today. A recent Daily Telegraph article speculated that a sale might be on the cards and estimated that the Soho House Group could have a market value of £300 million.
