Portobello Popup Cinema
Building the new cinema under the Westway

Cinema comes to Golborne

Golborne is to have its own cinema under the Westway, just by Portobello Road. The Portobello Popup Cinema opens on Saturday July 10th (8.30pm) with a showing of the classic Bronco Bullfrog, ‘the film the UK forgot’, according to the Guardian. Well-known Portobello character Barney Platts-Mills who wrote and directed the film will be on hand for a question and answer session.

The cinema’s programme continues with a variety of special presentations plus movies set in Notting Hill including the L-Shaped Room (Saturday 17th July, 7.30pm) with an introduction from local historian Tom Vague and Performance (Saturday 24th July, 8.15pm), shot in Powis Square and starring James Fox and Mick Jagger.

Other July highlights include showings of The Harder They Come (Sunday 18th July, 7.45pm) and Withnail and I (Saturday 31st July, 8.30pm).

August will see the Summer of Love Season, kicking off on with Mamma Mia! (Sunday 1st August, 8pm).

Admission to the cinema is on a pay-what-you-can-afford basis, with a suggested donation of £4.
