Athlone Gardens consultation

Kensington and Chelsea Council has launched a consultation on the future design of Athlone Gardens. The park lies between Wornington Road and Portobello Road in the midst of the new Portobello Square development which is the replacement for the old Wornington Green estate. The consultation closes on Monday, 22 December 2025.

Two landscape design firms have already been shortlisted for the work on Athlone Gardens. The online consultation details the plans that the two companies have proposed with comprehensive illustrations and explanations.

Local residents are invited to say which of the two designs they prefer and to make comments on the plans. Only those who live in Golborne, Dalgarno or St Helen's Wards can respond - responses from outside these areas will not be considered.

The winning designer will then work with the community to create the final vision for Athlone Gardens, with construction planned to begin during 2026.

Previous consultation has already established that people want:

More trees, plants and wildflowers
More seating and shade from the sun and rain
More activities for older children and teenagers, including an area for ball games
An improved dog exercise area
A small park building with toilets, a café, and shelter from the weather
