New contractor sought for Wornington Green

Catalyst Housing Group, formerly Kensington Housing Trust, has announced that Mansell Construction will not be the main contractor for the building of the new Wornington Green Estate. Catalyst has issued the statement below about the selection of a new contractor.

New contractor to be selected on Wornington Green
Catalyst By Design (CbyD), the developer arm of the Catalyst Housing Group (CHG) is seeking to appoint a new contractor for the first phase of construction at the Wornington Green development.

Mansell was appointed in March 2010 to provide expert construction input on design development and to carry out an initial enabling works package. These enabling works are now complete.

CbyD has been unable to agree commercial terms with Mansell for the main works and will therefore appoint a contractor for the first phase of works.

Griff Marshalsay, Project Director, said, “This is a vital regeneration project, which will significantly improve the quality of homes and the environment for residents and the local community. We are all committed to producing a development we can truly be proud of. Procuring a contractor for the first phase of construction is our priority and we will do our utmost to ensure any inconvenience is kept to a minimum.”

To keep any delay to a minimum, CbyD is looking at ways to continue the building works under its direct control.

CHG will continue to liase closely with residents and its key stakeholders and will make an announcement as soon as possible about a new partner for the first phase and the revised timescales for completion of Phase 1.

This flagship regeneration scheme, which will revitalise the existing Wornington Green Estate over a 12-year period, is a top priority for CHG. The redevelopment will transform the area into a vibrant new mixed tenure neighbourhood with up to 1,000 high quality new homes, new streets, a replacement park, new shops and new community facilities with training and employment opportunities.
