New plan for Edenham Way
Residents from Edenham Way (next to Trellick Tower) have produced a People’s Plan that could heal the wounds caused by demolition of part of Trellick’s garage block and Edenham Old People’s Home.
A Vision for Edenham: The People’s Plan has been created by the Residents’ Association and Novarc Studio. The masterplan is based on conversations with local residents and recognises the need for a health centre, older people’s accommodation, and community facilities. The design includes a dramatic new public square.
Local Councillor Emma Dent Coad was heavily involved in creating the plan, said, ‘The draft proposal has exceeded all my expectations and residents are delighted by this thoughtful and well-considered People’s Plan. It respects and complements Trellick Tower while serving local needs, and creates a new focal point for North Kensington that will immeasurably improve quality of life. The new square was a surprise, and is quite stunning.’
Karen Spencer, who was born and bred in Edenham Way and lives there with her own family, said, ‘We call Trellick Tower ‘The Beast’. The design is absolutely brilliant, it will open up the whole space and showcase Goldfinger’s work in all its glory.’
Her daughter Ellie, 11, said, ‘I’ll be able to go to the square with my little brother quite safely, it’s somewhere nice to go.’
The proposals will now be shown to prospective partners who have expressed interest, including the PCT, Council officers, a housing association and the TMO who manage Trellick Tower.
As Cllr Dent Coad put it: ‘All we have to do is persuade the decision-makers at the Council. Wish us luck.’
