New music venue for Golborne
Flyover Portobello is Golborne's new music venue, set under the Westway at 3, Thorpe Close, overlooking Portobello Green. It's staging regular music nights in the stylishly revamped space that used to be home to Inn on the Green.
Huey Walker (pictured) and Nick Trower are behind the new enterprise. 'I've always wanted to run a music venue,' says Huey. That's hardly surprising, since Huey's father is the legendary Wilf Walker who started staging punk and reggae gigs in W10 back in the 1970s and went on to become one of the UK's top reggae promoters and agents. 'You could say it's in my blood,' adds Huey.
Both men have day jobs, with Huey working at the Arts Council and Nick managing the Dock Kitchen restaurant at the top of Ladbroke Grove by the canal. 'Hopefully, we've got the right blend of skills to make this venue a success,' says Huey.
Currently, the 300-capacity venue is hosting 'Reggae in da City' nights on the last Friday of each month, and they'll be building up their calendar of one-off and regular events in the coming weeks.
