Workspace Glebe, a partnership between the Workspace Group and Glebe Holdings, has plans for redeveloping the Grand Union Centre site bounded West Row, Kensal Road and Ladbroke Grove. Workspace owns two other studio properties in Golborne, Canalot on Kensal Road and Westbourne Studios on Acklam Road.
The new development would provide studio space for small businesses (24,000 square metres) and around 215 new homes with 140 for private sale and 75 for affordable housing for joint ownership or letting.
The scheme, which at its highest could rise to 12 storeys, would include underground car-parking and would aim to provide a visually appealing northern gateway into North Kensington, an idea that the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea are keen on.
The proposals could mean the demolition of the Western Arms pub which occupies the corner of the site. Whether this is a real possibility remains to be seen since the property remains in private hands.
Workspace Glebe will submit an outline planning application to the Royal Borough soon and say they will seek the views of their tenants, stakeholders and local residents. Watch Golborne Life for more news.
