Golborne Forum calls for better design of Grand Union development

Taylor Wimpey and Workspace already have outline planning permission to demolish the Grand Union Centre on Ladbroke Grove and build flats, studios and shops, and now they've submitted a detailed application. Golborne Forum has commented to the Council on the proposals, calling for more imaginative design.

The new development on the current site of the Grand Union Centre between Ladbroke Grove and Southern Row is to include around 1,000 square metres of retail space, nearly 10,000 metres of workshop, office and studio space and 145 flats.

In principle, Golborne Forum supports the redevelopment of this site and in particular the proposed provision of both housing and affordable workspace. The Forum is, however, disappointed by the bland nature of the proposed design.

The Forum has urged the Council to require the developers to provide a design which is more in keeping with the vibrant nature of the community and the iconic buildings in Golborne Ward, such as Kensal House, Trellick Tower, Al Manaar and Westbourne Studios (the latter being a Workspace facility).

You can view the planning documents online and make comments about the proposed development until June 21st 2013.
