Future of Kensington & Chelsea College

Kensington and Chelsea College is running a consultation event about the future of its site on Wornington Road. The consultation is being held at the college on Thursday June 29th from 3 to 6 pm. The event will include two question and answer sessions with the college’s interim principal Michele Sutton, at 3.30 and 4.30 pm.

In 2016, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea bought the freehold of the 1.25 acre site of Kensington & Chelsea College on Wornington Road, just off Golborne Road. At the time, the Borough website stated that, “The £25m deal will bring much-needed housing to the area and guarantee the future of the college on the site.”

The Borough has also said that, “The college will have a guaranteed space on the Wornington Road site for as long as it decides to have one, in the current building for at least the next two or three years, and then in any new development that might be built in the future.”

Mooted plans have centred on the idea of building a mix of private and affordable housing on the site as well as a new building for the college. No firm decisions have yet been made about the future of the college site.

Ms Sutton has said, Sutton CBE said: “We are staying put in the neighbourhood but we need to ensure that our students are enjoying the kind of environment they deserve when they come to college. This is your chance to have your say – about out our facilities and even the courses we offer.”
