Kensington Aldridge Academy

Green light for new school

Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has given the planning go ahead for a £57.8m project to demolish the current Kensington Leisure Centre, due to close on December 24th, and replace it with a new school and leisure centre, and some new housing for sale.

The new school is the Kensington Aldridge Academy which will be run by the Aldridge Foundation, a charitable education trust that already runs other schools.

Kensington Aldridge Academy is to open for business in September 2014, so if you have a child currently in Year 5, they will be eligible to start their secondary education there.

The new leisure centre will have three pools, a 120 station gym and an eight-court sports hall.

A phased construction programme will get underway this month and the existing Kensington Leisure Centre is expected to close on Monday 24th December. Construction of the new leisure centre will run in parallel with the academy so that both new buildings can open together in 2014.
