New Middle Row school gets go-ahead
The Council has given the go-ahead for plans to build a new three-storey school (pictured) on the site of the current Middle Row Primary. The plans include provision for 42 homes and two commercial properties which will help to fund the development.
The existing early 20th century premises, originally built as two schools, no longer meet the requirements of staff and pupils. The buildings are expensive to run and making them accessible to is very difficult. The new plans have been drawn up by local architects Penoyre & Prasad
Due to open in September 2014, the new school will have a larger capacity with an increase from 246 to 450 children. The new school will also include a 30-place nursery and a specialist centre for up to 16 pupils with severe speech and language difficulties.
