Papa John's pizza

Papa John’s comes to Golborne

Only a year ago, Golborne Road had not a single pizza restaurant to its name – but now it’s got two. Pizza East opened last year, as we reported, and international chain restaurant Papa John’s opened last month.

Although the company has confusingly chosen to call their store the Ladbroke Grove branch, it is smack in the middle of Golborne Road at number 95, which used to host a Moroccan restaurant.

Papa John’s is the first international chain restaurant to land in Golborne. The firm has the third largest share of the global pizza market, after Pizza Hut and Domino’s. Despite that, the company is still headed by John Schnatter, the man who founded it in 1984 in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Papa John’s has more than 3,500 outlets in 29 countries around the world, although most are in the USA. The Golborne Road opening is part of a UK-wide expansion strategy which has already delivered over 150 outlets around the country, with around 60 in London.

At the Golborne Road branch, pizzas come in extra extra large (that’s right, two extras), large, medium and small, with the cheapest, a small cheese and tomato pizza costing £8.49.

In comparison, the cheapest pizza at Pizza East is buffalo mozzarella, tomato and basil at £7, but they don’t do take away or delivery. Papa John’s, on the other hand, delivers without charge, although the minimum order for that is £8.99. You could buy two dips at 39p each to bring your cheapest pizza order up to the threshold.

The restaurant runs a variety of special offers, including 33% off the price of pizza for your first internet order.
