Market: extended hours and national award
From now until the 26th September, Golborne Road and Portobello Road Markets will stay open up to 7pm on Thursdays, instead of the usual half day closing.
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is inviting new stallholders, including casual traders who can provide their own equipment, to get in touch. At present, there's no space for more hot food sellers in the market, but other types of traders are welcome.
Councillor Tim Ahern, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: "It's good news for those who would like a casual pitch on the market. So, if you've got something to sell, get in touch with the markets office and give it a go."
Portobello and Golborne have also won a prestigious award. The National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) has named them as winner of the Best Outdoor Market category for 2013.
Announcing the award, NABMA said, "The judging panel believe this market is one of the most diverse in the world and one where the street market plays a key part in providing an environment where people from across the whole community mix on an everyday basis."
