Rock & Roll Public Library
The Rock & Roll Public Library is a kind of museum of the life of Mick Jones, the man who started the Clash with the late lamented Joe Strummer in 1976.
It’s set in the former offices of the Portobello Business Centre at 2 Acklam Road, just under the Westway by Portobello Road.
The 3,000 square foot space has been filled with some 10,000 objects that Jones has collected over the years. There are toys, musical equipment, Clash gold discs, a huge collection of videos that visitors are welcome to view and just about every other kind of artefact that a man who has led an active and varied life might have collected.
The show is an extraordinary walk through the mind of a man who has an almost obsessive habit of collecting pop paraphernalia. The exhibition also has a keen sense of humour and a humanity which shines throughout. Not to be missed.
The exhibition is free and it runs until August 25th from 11am to 7pm Wednesday to Sunday.
