Local history: The Mitre

Reader Michael Harris has written to Golborne Life with a query about The Mitre pub that used to stand at 62 Golborne Road, on the corner with Wornington Road. The picture above is from 1969.

There's little information to be found on the internet except that the pub was probably built around 1870, was badly damaged by fire in about 1972 and never re-opened. By all accounts it was a lively and popular local pub until its demise.

Cafe O'Porto now occupies the site of the old Mitre.

After The Mitre was demolished, it eventually became home to the current occupant of the site, Cafe O'Porto, one of Golborne's favourite coffee shops.
