New contractor for Wornington Green

Catalyst Housing has now signed a £65 million contract with construction firm Ardmore for the building of phase one of the Wornington Green redevelopment programme. The project had been delayed after original contractors Mansell failed to agree commercial terms with Catalyst earlier in the year.

Ardmore won the contract in the face of competition from five other firms and work will start in January 2012. The company has worked on developments around Britain, including the Athletes Village for the 2012 Olympic Games in Stratford.

Phase one will provide 324 new homes – 141 for private sale, 174 for affordable rent and nine for shared ownership. The homes will be ready in 2013. The scheme also includes re-provision of Athlone Gardens and the development of new shops.

James Byrne, the Ardmore director leading the project, said, “We are delighted with this news and the entire project team is looking forward to working with Catalyst on this unique and prestigious contract."

Catalyst will announce details of job creation and training opportunities for local people in due course.
